Outreach & Missions

Our students are taught to influence their communities with integrity and high standards.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH & MISSIONS

Springs Christian Academy emphasizes community outreach and missions as important aspects of Christ-centered education. Students from Preschool to Grade 12 have the opportunity to serve in various ways, including ministry field trips to retirement homes, food banks, and neighbourhood clean-ups. Additionally, the school supports eight sponsor children in Uganda through the Watoto organization, participates in annual toy/food drives for Springs Church Inner City families, and supports student-led initiatives like a popup thrift shop, donating proceeds to a Women’s center. These initiatives aim to instill values of compassion, generosity, and global citizenship in students.

Ministry Field Trip

Our students volunteer and participate in ministry field trips, giving them opportunities to develop compassion, empathy, and a heart for service. Visiting places like retirement homes, food banks, or helping clean up neighbourhoods allows students to engage with real community needs and make a tangible impact. These experiences not only strengthen their faith but also teach valuable life lessons about humility, gratitude, and responsibility. Ultimately, it encourages a lifestyle of service rooted in love and purpose.

Watoto

From Preschool to Grade 12, our school fundraises and supports eight sponsor children in Uganda, Africa, through an organization called Watoto. Throughout the year, we hold several fundraising efforts, such as dress-up days, walk-a-thon, and special events, to reach our annual goal. These activities not only help provide essential resources like education, food, and healthcare for the children we sponsor, but also teach our students the value of generosity, global citizenship, and compassion. By working together as a school community, we show our students that even small actions can make a big difference in the lives of others around the world.

Student Volunteering

Every semester we ask all our students in grade 3 and up to volunteer. We purpose to instil in them the importance and joy found in giving back. Opportunities range from lunch monitoring and recess patrols, delivering hot lunch to classrooms, cleaning up on the grounds, or by patrolling our pick up/drop off line. This can include volunteering on a team in their church or community. Our High School students do a community clean up in the Fall, where they go around door to door in their neighbourhood, raking leaves and/or shovelling snow off the sidewalk.

Corporate Prayer

We believe in the importance and power of prayer. Our students pray weekly for our Country’s leadership, Federal, Provincial and city governments. Preschool to Grade 12 participate yearly in See You At The Pole, a prayer rally where students meet at the flagpole to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God. Since breaking ground for our new building, our student body has gathered to pray for our new building, the campaign, the safety of the workers, and for the impact SCA will have on future generations.

Our staff gather weekly in the morning before the school day starts, where our teachers take turns leading a devotion, and we pray for each other’s requests.

Food & Toy Drive

SCA loves supporting our Springs Inner City community and finding ways to make a difference by hosting an annual Christmas Toy Drive and a Food Drive twice a year. These drives are important in supporting families less fortunate, especially during the holiday season.

The toy drive provides gifts to children who might otherwise receive nothing during Christmas and the food drive supports Springs Inner City’s food bank, which serves approximately 500 families each month, as well as their emergency food pantry ,which serves an additional 40-50 families per month.

WEC Pop-Up Thrift Shop

SCA’s Women’s Empowerment Club (WEC) is dedicated to building a strong community of young women who support each other while living by the Word. Alongside their focus on personal growth and connection, they are also passionate about helping others in need. This spring, WEC hosted a week-long pop-up thrift shop, with all proceeds going to a local charity.

Pet Shelter Donation Drive

In February, during Love Month, the Grade 2 students purpose to show God’s love and make a difference in the lives of animals in need. Knowing that winter is a difficult time for abandoned or homeless cats and dogs—many of whom face hunger and exposure to the cold—the students took action to help.

They recognized the vital work of Winnipeg’s animal rescue shelters, which provide warmth, food, and shelter to hundreds of animals each year and help them find loving homes. In response, the Grade 2 students organized a donation drive and encouraged the entire campus to join in.

The students collected clean, gently used towels, sheets, light blankets, and pet toys. These donations were given to the Winnipeg Humane Society and the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter to support their ongoing care for animals in need.

Mitt & Toque Drive

Our Kindergarten students take part in a heartwarming initiative by organizing a mitt and toque drive to support Springs Inner City. Each year, as winter approached, they collect new or gently used items to donate to families in need who may not have had access to warm winter gear. This annual donation drive reminds our students of the importance of kindness, empathy, and community service, while bringing warmth and comfort to those facing challenges during the colder months. We were so proud of their big hearts and the difference they are making in the lives of others.
